WYOMING!

Friday, July 20

We were hiking at 7:30 AM, motivated by the knowledge that in ONLY 22 miles we would reach the border of Wyoming! We would finally be done with Colorado! Don't get me wrong...I loved Colorado. It was more beautiful, challenging, and rewarding than I could have ever imagined or express in pictures or words. To borrow a line from a movie...Colorado, you make me want to be a better hiker.

It was a long hard day for me and the miles seemed to go by slower than normal. There was more climbing than I anticipated and my legs seemed tired and heavy. It was also a very warm day and I was soaked with sweat most of the day. To add to my misery, my allergies were on overdrive; my sinuses were running and my eyes were itching most of the day. It wasn’t my best day on trail.

In spite of it being a hard day, when 5 Star and I reached the border of Wyoming at 6:42 PM, there was nothing to do but celebrate with pictures, fist bumps, and plenty of shouting! (Bee Dub was hours ahead of us.) We extended our time at the border with a long dinner break. I ate spaghetti, Oreo cookies, a Snickers and way too many sour gummy worms. After dinner, we hiked another mile or two and found a beautiful campsite 15 miles before Battle Pass at the crossing of Highway 70 in Wyoming! I crawled into my tent just before dark and prayed for a good nights rest and a reprieve from my allergies.
