September 21-24
This is it! The final section of the Continental Divide Trail from Two Medicine Lake to the Border of Canada through Glacier National Park! On Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th we slack packed (day hiked) 41 miles of the CDT with transportation to and from the town of East Glacier provided by 5 Star’s mom and stepfather. The weather was cold and windy with a combination of rain, hail and snow so it was great to be able to return to town to dry out and warm up.
We only have 67 miles to complete to reach the border of Canada. The weather continues to be wet so it looks like I’ll finish looking like a wet shaggy dog...and probably smelling like one too! We’ll finish around noon on the 24th at the Chief Mountain Trailhead which is a quarter mile from the border of Canada. We plan to walk across the border and get our passports stamped. Glacier National Park is beautiful and I’d love to return someday to explore it when it's not so COLD!
There are plenty of signs noting bear activity so it's nice to have a hiking partner in Glacier.
